What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine developed many thousand years ago. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into particular locations on the body. There are 14 major channels of energy flowing through the body and disease, pain and illness is seen as a disruption of this flowing energy. The needles aim to restore the natural flow of energy, and thus, improve health and promote wellbeing. Western medicine has assisted acupuncture with its understanding of nervous, endocrine and other circulatory systems, as well as clinical research to expand and enhance ancient knowledge.

Is acupuncture painful?

Many people are surprised about just how relaxing an acupuncture treatment is. The most common feedback is a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing after a treatment. The needles are very fine, and nothing like hypodermic needles that doctor's use, so there is rarely pain felt with the treatment. I use a very gentle style of needling and take each individuals constitution and presenting condition into account.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture has been effectively used for thetreatment of back and neck pain, headache/migraine and sports injuries. However, acupuncture provides more than pain relief. It is helpful in treating anxiety, insomnia, digestive and abdominal problems, menstrual problems, weight control, infertility and much, much more.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a safe and effective form of treatment for many different illnesses and problems. I use sterile, single use acupuncture needles.
