Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine‚Äôs origins can be traced back thousands of years, making it one of the oldest standing healthcare systems in the world. There are over 400 substances in the Chinese herbal material medica ranging from plant, animal and mineral extract.  All herbs have TGA approval.

A typical formula, on average includes between 3-15 different types of herbs specifically chosen for their therapeutic benefit, the way they react individually and in unison with the other chosen herbs in the formula. The herbs and dosages are tailored to suit your specific condition and presentation.

I generally prescribe herbs in granulated form, which are quick to prepare, convenient and easy to use. The granules are dissolved in warm water (like instant coffee) and generally taken morning and night.  If you would like to take the herbs in their raw form, which requires boiling them in a pot to make a tea, you can take a prescription to a local dispensary.  There are also the options for pills and capsules.

Chinese herbs can be taking by themselves or in conjunction with regular acupuncture treatments.  Herbs can be taken for a wide variety of conditions and generally are ok to be taken alongside western medicines if necessary.  Please contact me if you would like further information about how Chinese herbs can assist your health.
